Ganesh Shah is a Nepalese politician and ex-Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. He is also one of the senior most leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (United) and until recently was the General Secretary of the party Communist Party of Nepal (United). Shah is a Mechanical Engineer by profession and received his M-Tech (Technical Engineering) from Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University in 1973. Shah was appointed the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology when the cabinet was extended. Mr. Shah is a big advocate of the climate change issues in Nepal and has been quoted in various media outlet during his time as a minister. Mr. Shah is known for being one of the technology savvy politician in Nepal maintains his own blog and is an active Facebook user.
Dr. Bindu N. Lohani was Ranking Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development. He was responsible for the ADB’s Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department (Office of the Chief Economist), Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department, and Office of Information Systems and Technology. Prior to the above position, Dr. Lohani was Vice-President (Finance and Administration) of ADB. Dr. Lohani served as Chair of Investment Committee of the Pension Fund; Chair of Asset Liability Management Committee; and Chair of Crisis Management Committee. Dr. Lohani holds Doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering. Dr. Lohani has been conferred with several Honorary Doctoral Degrees including the Degree of Doctor of University by the Griffith University, Australia in recognition of his distinguished contributions to environment. He has also completed several management development programs, including the Executive Program conducted by the Business School of the University of Chicago, Management Development Program by Cornell University; and programs by Arthur D. Little School of Management, and Corporate Leadership program at Yale University.
Dr. Chaitanya Subba is former Member of National Planning Commission. He honed his Phd in social anthropology and has worked as social inclusion and human development expert. Besides, He also has an experience of working in UNDP, ILO, USAID, DEFID and various other international organizations as a chief researcher. Similarly, he has worked in the protection and promotion of Indigenous Peoples language, economic development, socio-economic, political and cultural rights and is famously known as indigenous peoples rights activists. He has written several research articles, contributed to journals and written books relating to indigenous peoples.
Govind Raj Pokharel is Vice Chairperson of the National Planning Commission of Nepal. He has over ten years of direct management experience as an executive director of various government institutions and NGOs, and over 20 years of experience in the academic field. He served for three years as Manager at SNV Netherlands Development Organisation based in various locations in South Asia.
Under his leadership, the Government of Nepal’s Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) was recognized as a focal point for promoting renewable energy in Nepal and access to renewable sources of energy in the country increased. He was Professor at the Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Department, Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has authored and co-authored numerous research papers on sustainable energy, climate change, policy, and technical aspects of renewable energy technologies and financing.
Dr. Shankar P. Sharma, former Ambassador of Nepal to the United States, has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Hawaii. He was the Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission from 2002 to 2006. Dr. Sharma also worked as a consultant to the Constitution Committee on "Distribution of Natural Resources, Economic Rights and Public Revenue" in helping to draft the new Constitution of Nepal. He has also served in various other capacities for the Government of Nepal such as the member of NPC, Chief Advisor in Ministry of Finance and Alternate Governor of Nepal for the International Monetary Fund and Senior Economist in Institute of South East Asian Studies (1986–1993).
Former Chief Secretary and Finance Secretary to the Government of Nepal, Dr. Koirala is an eminent economist, bureaucrat and administration specialist. A Master in Environmental Management from Duke University, USA and Master in Economic Policy, University of Texas at Austin, USA, he earned his Ph.D. in Economic Policy from University of Dortmund, Germany.His experience of several decades in the government, and his engagement with several national and international agencies after his retirement has made him one of the brightest intellectual figures of our country.
