Stakeholders’ Consultation: Policy Study on Supply and Use of Blended Fertilizers in Nepal

NSAF project through the Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS) has conducted policy study on supply and use of blended fertilizers. The study has assessed different issues including selection of blend type (physical mixture vs steam granulated product), supply options (import vs domestic production), fertilizer policy (subsidy; raw materials vs final product; product-based vs nutrient content based) along with financial analysis of two types of blending plants—physical blending plant and steam blending plant. Study has also assessed farmers’ perspectives; industry perspectives; distributors’ perspectives; and the government (federal and provincial) perspectives on the options of blended fertilizer production in Nepal. The study was based on both primary and secondary data, including cross-country experiences from India, Africa, and Europe.

Objectives of this stakeholders’ meeting was to share the findings of the study and collect feedbacks and comments from respective fertilizer sector stakeholders to establish fertilizer blending plant and promotion of blended fertilizers in Nepal.
