Movie on the House (MOTH)

IIDS’ Movie on the House (MOTH), in collaboration with Decades of Nepali Diaspora and The Magnificent 100+, showcased the works of director, writer, producer Deepak Rauniyar on March 17. In the post-screening panel, moderated by Ms. Dilasha Joshi, he welcomed the industry’s shift away from remakes, but criticized growing creative constraints.

The discussion also explored how politically charged films can divide audiences and how financial struggles push actors into multiple roles, limiting creative and industrial growth. Rauniyar also broke down a director’s role in simple terms, humorously stating that managerial skills often end up being just as important as creativity.

He also reiterated the role of his wife and creative partner Ms. Asha Magarati towards making compelling movies. He also shared how his collaboration with Anurag Kashyap began with a chance meeting in Singapore, and hinted at an upcoming project spanning Nepal, the UK, and India.
