Junior Research Analyst (Apprenticeship)

The Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS) invites applications from motivated and enthusiastic individuals for the position of Junior Research Analyst (Apprenticeship) under the Center for Environment and Climate Change (CECC).

This apprenticeship offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates and early-career researchers to gain practical experience in policy-oriented research while working alongside experienced researchers and policy experts. The selected candidate will contribute to research, policy analysis, data management, and stakeholder engagement on issues related to climate change, environmental sustainability, green growth, biodiversity, energy transition, disaster resilience, and sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and background research on climate change, environmental policy, natural resource management, and sustainable development.

  • Assist in collecting, cleaning, organizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Support the preparation of policy briefs, research reports, discussion papers, presentations, and other knowledge products.

  • Contribute to research on climate adaptation and mitigation, renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, green economy, and environmental governance.

  • Assist in organizing workshops, consultations, seminars, and policy dialogues.

  • Prepare meeting notes, summaries, and documentation of research activities.

  • Support field surveys, interviews, and stakeholder consultations as required.

  • Monitor national and international developments related to climate change and environmental policy.

  • Assist in developing data visualizations, presentations, and communication materials.

  • Perform other research and program-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science (preferred).

  • Candidates with degrees in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Climate Change, Geography, or other related disciplines are also encouraged to apply.

  • Fresh graduates and candidates awaiting final results are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong interest in environmental policy and climate change research.

  • Basic understanding of climate adaptation, mitigation, biodiversity, environmental economics, or sustainable development.

  • Knowledge of research methodologies and data analysis.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Experience with statistical software (SPSS, Stata, or R) and/or GIS tools (QGIS or ArcGIS) will be an advantage.

  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in Nepali is desirable.

Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS), Mandikhatar, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Duration

As per the IIDS Apprenticeship Program.

Reporting Line

The Junior Research Analyst will report to the Program Lead/Senior Research Staff of the Center for Environment and Climate Change (CECC).
