The challenge of inadequate access of women leaders in governance, especially in policymaking process stands as a pressing issue in the new federal, democratic, republican Nepal, where limited access of elected women in key decision-making roles severely diminishes their roles as elected women leaders and weakens their influence in matters impacting all. Not only does it adversely impact our democratic system of governance, but it also recedes the quality of our federal structure, political participation as well as political contestation. IIDS in collaboration with Tewa and Tribhuvan University’s Dept. of Gender Studies is conducting a research at the ward level to uncover and identify hurdles, challenges and barriers to women’s access to political decision-making.
