Nepal Seed and Fertilizer Project
- Partners: CIMMYT
- Year: 2021
The Nepal Seed and Fertilizer (NSAF) project (2016–2021) aims to build competitive and synergistic seed and fertilizer value chains for inclusive and sustainable growth in agricultural productivity, business development, and income generation. The project focuses on strengthening the value chains of its six target crops of rice, maize, lentils, tomatoes, cauliflowers, and onions in 25 districts in Nepal.
The project’s baseline study was carried out by the Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS) in August–September 2017 to establish baseline values for project indicators. Questionnaires were administered to 600 farmers in 13 districts, and the representatives of 13 seed companies, 95 agro vets, and 13 district agriculture development offices (DADOs). The crop-related results are presented by hill and Terai (southern plains) districts for the main crops grown and harvested in the past 12 months by the farm households.
